5 Ways to Make Weight Loss Fun

When you think of dieting, having fun is probably not the first thing that comes to your mind. But maybe it should be! We love to have fun, and there’s no reason dieting has to mean boredom, deprivation, and sacrifice. Weight loss can be fun if you have the right attitude and make up your own rules. If your task is enjoyable, you’ll be much more likely to stick with it. Forget old-fashioned dieting rules and try some of these instead.

1. Eat more often, not less.

When you go too long without food, the typical result is out-of-control hunger. That can lead to bingeing, and usually not on vegetables. Instead, eat every few hours to keep yourself satisfied and not tempted to overindulge.

2. Treat yourself.

Make your favourite food off-limits, and you can bet you’ll be craving it from day one. Instead, give yourself permission to eat it from time to time. Humans have a notoriously short supply of willpower, so make allowances for this and make room in your diet for the treats you love.

3. Find fun exercise.

Forget looking for the “best” workout – instead, focus on finding one you love. The best workout is the one you’ll actually do. So if you love dancing, or swimming, or walking with a friend, do it regularly. Anything you enjoy that gets your blood pumping is a great workout.

4. Sleep more.

Need an excuse to spend more time in bed? You’ve got one. Getting enough sleep every night is essential for weight loss. When you’re sleep deprived, you have higher levels of certain hormones that make you hungry and lower levels of the ones that make you feel full. So go to bed a bit earlier and enjoy all that extra time resting.

5. Eat out.

Cooking at home more and eating out less is the traditional wisdom when it comes to losing weight. However, eating out is fun, and there’s no reason it can’t be part of your healthy diet. Look for lighter fare, split an entrée with a friend, or order an appetiser as your meal.
These are easy ways to make dieting a fun part of your life. When you look forward to something, it’s hard not to do it. Forget the notion that dieting is hard or boring and find ways to make it work for you.
