Finding the Best Weight-Loss Strategy for You

If you’ve tried losing weight without success, the problem may not be you at all; the problem may simply be you haven’t found the weight-loss plan that works for you. There are lots of ways to approach living a healthy lifestyle – not just one perfect way.

The one thing that remains true across the board is diet and exercise are the two keys to weight loss. Beyond that, there are many ways to eat a healthy diet and many ways to exercise. The trick is to find what works best for you, not what works best for a celebrity or your co-worker or neighbour. It can take some trial and error to figure it out, but it’s worth it. When you find ways to make real behaviour changes that result in a healthier body and mind, reaching and maintaining your goal weight will become much easier.

Most evidence suggests it doesn’t really matter whether the diet you follow is low-carb, low-fat, high-fibre, or even made up of pre-packaged foods; what matters is that you consume all the nutrients your body needs and take in fewer calories than you expend. If low-carb eating works better for you, go for it. If you prefer a vegetarian plan, follow that. Find the healthy foods you like and eat them in the right amounts.

Next, add exercise to help you burn more calories. This can be any exercise at all as long as you enjoy it. So, if you love running, run. If you love swimming, swim. If you can’t stand any traditional exercise, investigate gardening, dancing, housework, or anything that makes you feel happy and productive that you’ll keep doing.

You can further increase your odds of success by experimenting with other lifestyle changes that may be effective for you; the only way to know is to try. Try getting more sleep, meditating, or even therapy, and you’re sure to discover the perfectly-tailored strategy that will work for you.
